Industrial Policies and Technology Management Thesis Master's Program (English)
The economic transition of societies from foraging societies to the agricultural and industrial revolutions, followed by the development of the service sector and subsequently the emergence of the information society, has brought significant transformations for humanity in the 21st century. The ability to thrive in the information society is fundamentally linked to meeting the foundational requirements of earlier societal structures, especially those established during the industrial era. Societies that fall behind in industrial development risk becoming merely a consumer rather than a producer in the information society. Today, the rapid changes in technology and employment fields, occurring parallel to globalization, have created a need to diversify educational activities and effectively address new emerging requirements. Classical education practices have started to blend with remote learning, and interdisciplinary approaches have begun to emerge. According to this perspective, industrial policies and technology management have come to the forefront as two prominent interdisciplinary fields. At the national level, industrial policies and design, and at the firm level, the discipline of technology management plays a critical role in accelerating industrialization and enhancing national productivity to improve welfare levels. Industrial policies are of great importance in the industrialization processes of countries. To achieve industrial growth, increase competitiveness, and enhance export capacities by producing technology-based and high value-added products, industrial policies need to be designed and implemented scientifically. As a subfield of industrial policy, technology management is a scientific discipline that deals with effectively managing technological capabilities, equipment (tools), and human resources at the level of government institutions, technological ecosystems, and firms. To further accelerate the industrial and technological development of our country, there is a growing need for qualified personnel specializing in industrial policies and technology management within government institutions and private sector stakeholders. The purpose of establishing the IPTM Master's Program at OSTİM Technical University is to meet this demand for qualified professionals, foster the development of academicians in this field, and contribute to accelerating the technology-based industrial development of our country. As a " Industrial university " OSTİM Technical University is located in OSTİM, one of the leading industrial zones of our country. For our university, generating knowledge not only in technical fields but also in areas such as economics and business while contributing to the development of human resources is of utmost importance for a "more efficient and competitive" industry. Through the IPTM Master's Program, we plan to increase the number and quality of researchers, academicians, and professionals working in the fields of industrial policy and technology management at our university. This program will contribute to equipping experts working in public institutions, academia, and the private sector with more advanced competencies in the design and implementation of industrial policies and technology management. Ultimately, the implementation of more effective industrial policies and technology management will enhance the competitiveness, export capacity, and development of our country.
